External belief- and sensemaking systems are the scaffolding to support the autopoietic emergence of coherent meaning making without external support.

The seemingly impossible act of letting go and integrating the scaffolding at the same time is what we need to do or else we might emerge from the chrysalis as caterpillars with wings*.

* “Caterpillars with wings is an idea first coined by Nora Bateson at a recent gathering, relayed to me by someone in attendance.”
