There is always a band of optimal operation between two poles. Csikszentmihalyi calls the band between stress and boredom the "flow channel" - a similar picture comes from the space between chaos and rigidity which Daniel Siegel calls the "river of integration". David Treleaven opens the "window of tolerance" between the states of hyperarousal and hypoarousal and then he widens the claim to say that the wider our window of tolerance, the better can we hold complexity.

Complexity tolerance might be one of the most fundamental skills in the liminal times we inhabit. It can be cultivated by training sustained present moment attention through observation of the contents of our mind without adding content.
